June 21 Hiking - Ptarmigan Mountain
(Note the change from Buffalo Mt.)
Due to excessive snow on Buffalo Mt. the hike has changed to Ptarmigan Mountain. This is a similar hike to what we would have done on Buffalo. Start at elevation of 9,362 feet and summit at 11,785 feet with breath taking views of Lake Dillon, Summit County and 14,000 ft peaks. BBQ on "The Deck" afterwards.
July 19 Hiking - Quandary Mountain
Trailhead is 8 miles south of Breckenridge on County Road 851. This is one of the easier 14r's but it is still a lot of work if you have not done one. If you can do Buffalo you can probably do this. An alternate and much easier hike is McCullough Gulch about 1 mile up to the end of the road. See small lakes, waterfalls, wild flowers and maybe some animals. BBQ on "The Deck" afterward or maybe meet at the Breckenridge Brewery depending on group desires.
August 2 - Summer Party
Please join the club in a summer party at Roland and Karen's house, Littleton, CO on August 2. Beverage provided, bring a dish. More details coming.
August 8-10 Camping and Hiking
Camping at the Collegiate Peaks campground, hike Mt. Yale or the Colorado Trail. The trailhead to Mt Yale is about a half mile up the road from camp. The Colorado trail is about 3/4 mile down the road from camp. If we spot cars we could make this a loop hike for the 14r and hook up with the other hikers on the Colorado trail on the way down. Group meals will probably be organized. There are some hot springs in this canyon, commercial and I'm told some free ones if you know how to find them.
For all Hiking and Camping, RSVP to Steve Beck steve.j.beck@lmco.com for more info, carpooling, and directions to "The Deck". As with all mountain hikes each person is responsible for their own preparedness and must make their own judgment on weather conditions.
Have a great summer!
