Southern Colorado Road Trip February 7-10, 2008 $300 +options Trip Includes:
February 7 Thursday - Wolf Creek (Optional)
This is a road trip for those who want to enjoy all that Southern Colorado has to offer, with destinations such as Wolf Creek, Silverton Mountain and Telluride you can't go wrong. You have options on where you can ski; we will start by driving to South Fork on February 6 and spend the night at Wolf Creek Ranch Ski Lodge. February 7 will be reserved for Wolf Creek (optional) weather permitting (LOTS OF POWDER) if they don't get snow we won't go! To help guarantee good snow this part of the trip will be decided one week in advance, skiers interested in going to Wolf Creek will be asked to put their names on a list and will be contacted the week of the trip. After skiing Wolf Creek we will drive into Pagosa Springs for dinner and to soak our bones in the hot springs at the Springs Resort (nice place).
February 8 Friday - Silverton or Telluride (Optional)
After leaving Pagosa Springs we will drive to Silverton (optional), spend the night at the Triangle Motel and ski Silverton Mountain on Friday February 8. This area is recommended for expert skiers only and be ready to hike your butt off. This part of the trip will also be decided a week in advance to guarantee good snow, if they don't get the snow we won't go! Once again skiers will be asked to put their name on a list and will be notified a week in advance.
For those who would rather ski Telluride three days and skip Silverton Mountain you have the option of staying in Ridgeway Thursday night, February 7 and skiing Telluride on Friday, February 8. Lodging for Ridgeway is still in the works and should be decided soon.
February 8-10 Friday - Sunday - Telluride (Core Trip)
We will be staying at The Mountainside Inn, which is located adjacent to Lift #7 and only two blocks from the complimentary gondola and downtown Telluride. All the rooms we have reserved feature kitchenettes, with a queen bed or queen plus twin bed. The Telluride ski experience offers a genuine mountain experience for all levels of skiers thanks to a mix of quality terrain at all points on the mountain. From refined groomed runs to challenging moguls, there truly is something for everyone. Even beginners and intermediate skiers can ride to the highest peaks and enjoy terrain and views typically reserved for the experts.
Black Iron Bowl is opening in January, which adds eight runs of backcountry-style terrain adjacent to the breathtaking Prospect Bowl. The area sits against the dramatic backdrop of Palmyra Peak on the western end of the resort.
February 10 Sunday night we will all drive back to Denver and continue on with our extremely exciting lives (Bummer).

Salt Lake City February 20-24, 2008 $370 members
Sign-up in November $100 deposit is due at the November meeting.
Trip Includes:
Once again it is time for the annual pilgrimage to the steep and deep ski runs of Utah. This is a great trip for all abilities from beginner to expert "powder hound". The only thing new this year from last is that we are upgrading our lodging to the La Quinta Inn, Midvale Utah, 7231 Catalpa Rd., 801-566-3291. For those of you that missed out last year (26" new at Alta on one of our days) we are staying in Midvale Utah close to the light rail to downtown. The trip will cost a bit more this year, air and lodging are both a bit higher, however the accommodations should be much nicer than last year. The trip includes air, lodging, and transportation from the airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the ski areas. La Quinta does include a nicer breakfast than our previous accommodations. Because of our group rates with air, I will need you to sign up at the November or December meeting. I would like to take 18 people, but we could take 24 if we get a good turn out.
Air travel on Southwest Airlines.
DIA to SLC Wed Feb 20th flt #1950 Dep 5:15pm Ariv 6:40pm
SLC to DIA Sun Feb 24th flt #1573 Dep 6:30pm Ariv 8:00pm
3 checked bags all under 50 lbs, only one carry on bag allowed.
Ski areas that we can ski are as follows: Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Sundance, Snow Basin, Canyons, Brighton, and Deer Valley. The ski areas that we ski depend on a consensus of a van full of people and a driver. Satellite has done this trip the 3rd weekend in February many times, with outrageous snow falls during many of these trips. Steep and deep applies, bring your powder cords!

Buffalo Mountain or Lilly Pad hike June 21, 2008 free
This is a great warm up hike for 14r’s. Hike 3000 feet starting at 9,777 and go to to 12,777. Buffalo is the prominent mountain in Summit county that you see as you come out of the tunnel (has a large avalanche slide). Trailhead is at the top of Wildernest road aka Ryan Gulch Road. Be at the trail head by 8:00 am. To reach the trailhead, exit I-70 at Dillon/Silverthorne (Exit 205) and head north to the first stoplight (not counting the one at the off-ramp). Turn left at this stoplight (by 7-11) and continue up this road past all of the Factory Outlet stores. The road winds for about 2 miles through condo-land and near the top of the loop exists a parking area for two trailheads. The trailhead furthest west is the Lily Pad Trail. Slightly east is the Buffalo trailhead where there is a sign-in register and a Forest Service bulletin board. BBQ on the deck afterwards.
All Interested people should email the trip leader to arrange carpool.

Quandary Peak 14’r hike July 19, 2008 free
Trailhead is 8 miles south of Breckenridge on County Road 851. This is one of the easier 14r’s but it still a lot of work if you have not done one. If you can do Buffalo you can probably do this. From Breckenridge, drive 8 miles south on Colorado 9. Turn right (west) on the Blue Lakes 850 Road. Drive a few hundred yards and turn right on the McCullough Gulch 851 Road. There is a sign for the Quandary Peak Trail at this junction. Drive 0.1 mile to a small parking area on the right side of the road. This is the trailhead. The U.S. Forest Service has installed a sign/kiosk that faces away from the road. Walk up the road to the next corner and the trail starts on the left. Be at the trailhead at 7:00 am. An alternate and much easier hike is McCullough Gulch about 1 mile up to the end of the road. See small lakes, waterfalls, wild flowers and maybe some animals. BBQ on the deck afterwards or maybe meet at the Breckenridge Brewery depending on group desires. All Interested people should email the trip leader to arrange carpool.

Camping trip with option for hiking a 14’r weekend August 8-10, 2008 small fee
Collegiate Peaks Campground Sites 16 and 20 are reserved. So far 16 people have responded. We can have 8 people per site so I may risk another $36 and reserve another site if we get more people. The campsites are $13 per nite plus a $10 resevation fee per site. We can have two cars per site and pay $5 per day for each additional car per the rules. So far I have never been charged for extra cars in the three years I have been running this trip. Our sites are next to the river and can hold at least 4 cars each. There is one site in between our two that is not reservable. About half of the sites are reservable and the others are on a first come first serve basis in this campground. The trailhed to Mt Yale is about a half mile up the road from camp. The Colorado trail is about 3/4 mile down the road from camp. If we spot cars we could make this a loop hike for the 14r and hook up with the other hikers on the Colorado trail on the way down. I can send a hi res 4 Mbit map to those that want. There are some hot springs in this canyon, commercial and I’m told some free ones if you know how to find them. More information is here.
Budget $9 per person for this trip but it will be less if we don’t get nicked for extra cars and if all 16 people show up. We can always stash cars at the trailhead to save money. We can arrange group meals if some one wants to do this, dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday. The 14r hikers usually leave camp at first light on Sat morn so breakfast is on their own.
All Interested people should email the trip leader to arrange carpool.

SATELLITE SKI CLUB TRIP SIGNUP AND REFUND POLICY
![]()
Trip Code of Conduct - please read
Hopefully this is common sense to most people.
Beds: The club does its best to place couples in queen/king beds and individuals in twin beds. In some cases this is not possible. In situations where twin beds are not available in a unit, couples shall yield the largest bed to the two individuals that have to share a bed. Being a couple does not automatically entitle you to the master suite.
Guests: Last minute impromptu guests are permitted only with the permission of the trip chairperson and with the appropriate payment and membership or guest fees. Under no circumstances may a participant invite someone to stay in a unit without the permission of the trip chairperson. Any club banned members, including Mary Carmody, are not allowed in the rooms, condos, vehicles or other club rented facilities.
Party Room: On some trips, a party room is provided to the participants. Non-trip persons may not attend a party without the permission of the trip chairperson. An appropriate fee may be assessed. Given that the party room is occupied by people that desire a good night's sleep, the party shall end at a reasonable hour.
Noise: It is a certainty that we will be sharing the hotel/condo with other non-ski-club people. Many of them may have small children and may not share our enthusiasm for late night libations. Please be considerate! Move yourself and your bags into your room as quietly as possible. Talking loudly (or any other activity that makes noise) in the hallways is NOT permitted! If you are getting a group together to go out, assemble the group in a room or outside the building.
Ground Transportation: On some trips the club provides rental vehicles for use by trip participants. The use of the vehicle is determined by the democratic decision of the occupants. Please be respectful of the drivers, they should not be considered personnel chauffer. The vehicles are primarily for transportation to and from the ski areas. No one, including drivers, should consider the vehicle primarily for their own personal use.
Bathrooms: All bathrooms in a unit are communal, within reason. After skiing, bathrooms in a unit should be accessible to the next person needing to use it. The master bath in a unit is not necessarily for the exclusive use of the persons occupying the master suite. This does not imply that anyone in the unit may transition the master bedroom in the middle of the night to get to the master bath. People should always use good judgment and use the most accessible bathroom without disturbing others.
Pets: Pets are generally not permitted. On certain trips, pets may be permitted when the property management allows it, and the trip chairperson agrees to it, and all persons sharing the unit agree to it.
Last of all: NO WHINING! Constructive suggestions are welcome. Responses to whining will be offers of cheese and music from very small violins.
